Maryland Falls to Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla.--- Despite scoring a season best and getting several outstanding individual performances, the Maryland women's gymnastics team could not overcome a strong Florida team and lost 195.575 - 191.350. The loss drops the Terrapins to 4-2 overall, while the Gators improve to 1-2.

A crowd of 3,345 saw the Terrapins record season bests in vault (47.700), bars (48.100) and beam (48.150), but these marks were not enough to defeat the Gators who took first place in all four events and the all-around competition.

In thr losing effort, however, Maryland gymnasts set numerous season-highs. Leading the way for the Terrapins was senior Stacy Breidenbach (Hillsdale, N.J./Pleasant Valley (Pa.))whose score of 38.325 set a new personal season best and placed her third overall in the all-around competition. She also set season highs on vault (9.600), bars (9.375) and floor (9.650), and tied a season-high on beam with a 9.700. Another Maryland standout was freshman Karyn Fein (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) who took second place overall on beam scoring a career and season-high 9.800. Fein also set career and season-highs on bars (9.575) and floor (9.625). Junior Christine Holcombe (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) also impressed as she placed fourth in the all-around competition scoring a season-high 37.750 and also recording season-high scores on vault (9.600) and beam (9.500).

The loss drops the Terrapins to 4-2 overall, while the Gators improve to 1-2.
